Fantastic Four

Yesterday, Josh Trank went on record to deny some recent plot rumours which had been doing the rounds and left many fans with a bad taste in their mouths about Fox’s The Fantastic Four reboot. Several names have already been mentioned when it comes to filling the roles of Mr. Fantastic, The Invisible Woman and The Thing, with the only confirmed cast member being Michael B. Jordan as The Human Torch.

The Hollywood Reporter now reveal that Kate Mara (127 House) and Emmy Rossum (The Day After Tomorrow) have both tested for the role of Susan Storm/The Invisible Woman, while Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now) has auditioned for Reed Richard/Mr. Fantastic. English actor Christian Cook (Cemetery Junction) meanwhile is the only – and first – actor mentioned to be in the running to play Ben Grimm/The Thing.

However, the most interesting part of their report is the fact that Doctor Doom will once again be the main villain in the franchise (he was played by Julian McMahon in the 2005 movie), “the studio is likely to go for a big name and isn’t ruling out switching genders for the role.” That’s bound to upset some comic book fans, but would be an interesting direction for the iconic character!

Saoirse Ronan, Elizabeth Olsen and Kit Harington have all previously been rumoured for roles in the reboot, but scheduling issues and a variety of other factors mean that none of them will be testing now. How do you guys feel about this latest news on The Fantastic Four?
