The-Hunger-Games-Catching-Fire-LogoDirector Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) has taken over the helm for next year’s blockbuster sequel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and after the original took just shy of 0m. this year, impressing both critics and audiences alike, there’s naturally a lot of anticipation surrounding the second instalment.

Jennifer Lawrence reprises her leading role as Katniss Everdeen, and with almost exactly one year to the day to go before the sequel hits theatres, Lionsgate have released the first motion poster, featuring a familiar symbol.

“THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.”

Much of the original cast is returning alongside Lawrence, with a handful of great new faces, with support headed up by Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Woody Harrelson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Willow Shields, and Donald Sutherland.

Lawrence is directing from a script first penned by Oscar-winning writer Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours), with Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, the upcoming Star Wars Episode 7) hired for a rewrite, based on Suzanne Collins’ original novel.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is slated for release in the US and UK on 22nd November, 2013, and is anticipated to be one of the biggest films of next year. To kick things off, here’s the new motion poster. Enjoy.
