Given Clint Eastwood’s increasingly peerless record as a director (although interestingly both Invictus and Hereafter seem to see him a little off his game), it is no surprise that every Tom, Dick & Harry wants to be on board his latest prestige project, the story of FBI founder and (alleged) legendary cross-dresser, J Edgar Hoover.

You can bring yourself up to date with the increasingly impressive roster of signed-up actors here and then add to that, one Josh Lucas. We already knew that Damon Herriman has been cast in the interesting role of Bruno Hauptmann, convicted (though perhaps innocent) kidnapper and killer of Charles Lindbergh’s son, which made it safe to assume that we would soon be seeing Lindbergh himself cast and so he has. Lucas, who has plenty of creditable work on his CV, seems like a solid choice for a supporting role and will no doubt be delighted to be able to work with Eastwood, having previously worked with such acclaimed directors as Ang Lee, Lasse Hallström and Ron Howard. He seems to possess the so-called matinee-idol good looks that might befit the portrayal of so celebrated a historical figure and will no doubt turn in another good performance.

J. Edgar remains in pre-production and we will continue to bring you all of the news as it emerges.
