Fox are officially moving ahead with the Minority Report TV show which was first reported on back in August. It now has a pilot order, meaning we should hear about casting soon as they take aim at an Autumn premiere if the network – Fox in this case – decide to pick the series up for an initial run of episodes.
Minority Report is being produced by the 2002 movie’s director Steve Spielberg, and Godzilla scribe Max Borenstein is writing. He will also produce, while Kevin Falls (Franklin & Bash) will serve as showrunner.
This Minority Report series is a sequel which apparently place 10 years after the end of Precrime in D.C., when one of the three Precogs struggles to lead a “normal” human life, but remains haunted by visions the future, when he meets a detective haunted by her past, who just may help him find a purpose to his gift.
The movie starred Tom Cruise and Colin Farrell, and told of a future where a special police unit is able to arrest murderers before they commit their crimes. That ability gets challenged when an officer from that unit is himself accused of a future murder. It was well-received, but a big screen sequel was never made.
It’s obviously been a long time since the release of Minority Report, so it will more than likely only be a sequel in a very loose sense. Stay tuned to HeyUGuys, as we’ll be sure to keep you updated on the series!
