Michael Keaton has been receiving a great deal of praise for his incredible performance in Birdman (you can read our review of the movie by clicking here), but he looks set to return to big budget blockbusters with a role in Kong: Skull Island. The actor is said to be in the final stages of a deal to appear in the 2017 movie.

Tom Hiddleston (Avengers Assemble) and JK Simmons (Whiplash) have already been confirmed as starring.

The movie is a prequel of sorts to the classic King Kong tale as it will explore his home island. A vague description released when the movie was announced read, “Previous works have touched on the island, but staying on and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.”

A more recent synopsis reads, “Kong: Skull Island promises to fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the iconic ape as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island.” There are no details on who Keaton will play, but it’s presumably one of these adventurers!

Legendary Pictures are responsible for the movie, leaving anxious fans hopeful for a possible Godzilla crossover at some point down the line. Regardless, Jordan Vogt-Roberts is directing and Godzilla scribe Max Borenstein penned the screenplay before Flight’s John Gatins came in to do a rewrite a little earlier this year.
