After the first season of Big Little Lies got off to a roaring start it was only a matter of time before a few more big players wanted a piece of the action. So it comes as no surprise that the one and only Meryl Streep will join the show in season 2 alongside Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman.

Streep will play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of the abusive Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard). Her character will reportedly be a woman who is concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren and arrives in Monterey searching for answers.

Big Little Lies Season 1

Based on the same-titled best-seller by Liane Moriarty, “Big Little Lies” weaves a darkly comedic tale of murder and mischief in the tranquil beachfront town of Monterey, California.

Amidst doting mums, successful husbands, beautiful children, and stunning homes exists a community fueled by rumours and divided into haves and have-nots, exposing fractured relationships between husbands and wives, parents and children, and friends and neighbours. Told through the eyes of three mothers — Madeline, Celeste and Jane — the series’ narrative explores society’s myths regarding perfection and its romanticization of marriage, sex, parenting and friendship. Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley star as the three prominent “mothers of Monterey.”

Season 2 will be comprised of seven episodes from the returning scribe David E. Kelley. The season will also see Alexander Skarsgard return and an introduction the parents for Zoe Kravitz’s character, Bonnie.

Andrea Arnold will direct all seven episodes of the new season which plans to air in 2019.

Streep is currently starring in the latest Spielberg production, The Post alongside Tom Hanks. We recently attended the UK Press Conference with Streep in attendance. Watch the full video below.
