Pixar will be back on the big screen in just a few months’ time (or less than a month if you’re reading this in the US), bringing us their latest feature, Brave.

Set in the Scottish Highlands, we’ve been seeing plenty from the film to colour us interested over the past few months – of course, when it comes to Pixar, we’ll always be interested.

Adding to that, the studio have now released a minute-long extended TV spot, entitled ‘One Family’, introducing us to all the main characters related to our young heroine, Merida.

“Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida (Kelly Macdonald) is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).”

Co-directed by Mark Andrews (head of story on The Incredibles) and Brenda Chapman (The Prince of Egypt), the film features a great voice cast headed up by Kelly Macdonald, Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane, Kevin McKidd, and Craig Ferguson.

And as well as getting the main feature, we can also look forward to the Oscar-nominated short, La Luna, attached in front of the film – if there’s anyone who knows how to make a good animated short, it’s Disney and Pixar, and La Luna looks brilliant.

Brave will be released in the US first, arriving in theatres next month on 22nd June, before coming to the UK a little later this summer on 17th August. Here’s the new extended TV spot to tie you over whilst you wait.
