Matthew Vaughn needs a well-earned rest if you ask us. After we spoke to him about his new film, eagerly-anticipated sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle (more on that below), he revealed he has had talks about Man of Steel 2 to us, as well as talking about his versions of X-Men: Days of Future Past and a possible return to Fantastic Four.

And if that wasn’t enough to get your teeth into, another chunk of news has come courtesy of Collider who also chatted to Vaughn about the potential Flash Gordon reboot/remake he has been linked with. The original cult classic, released in 1980 starring Sam Jones and Max von Sydow and directed by Mike Hodges, was very much “of its time” so would a 21st-century makeover work? Vaughn had his say:

“We’ve been working on it… For me, the only problem with Flash Gordon is Guardians [Of The Galaxy] kind of stole what I would have liked to have done with it. You’ve got Star Wars, you’ve got Guardians, so you’ve got to have your own space opera, but you have to find something that can survive among these two very, very great franchises”.

We’d love to see a new Flash Gordon adventure, for sure, but it would take someone very special to make it work for modern audiences. Vaughn could be a busy man in the next few years…

Elsewhere, Kingsman 2 opened in various places across the globe over the past weekend and topped the international box office. In the US, the film dethroned IT to top the box office taking $39million, up on the $36.2million opening of the first film while a similar story was seen in the UK, with the sequel opening to £8.5million – almost double what the original took in its opening.
