It’s been a crazy old week at Warner Bros and DC, and for us as fans too as more plans for their expanded cinematic universe involving their DC heroes and villains keeps taking many twists and turns.
Earlier this week, news broke that Martin Scorsese had been courted to produce a Joker origins story with War Dogs helmer Todd Phillips directing; then, Matt Reeves said that his upcoming standalone Dark Knight film, The Batman, was not part of the DCEU; and finally, a Joker/Harley Quinn film was in the offing. Excuse us while we take a breath.
But some clarity on some of these projects have been revealed today, thanks mainly to Matt Reeves who took to his Twitter to set the record straight on The Batman:
One thing we still not know just yet is whether Ben Affleck is set to return in the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne for the film, with conflicting reports since he spoke at Comic Con.
In addition, it seems that the projects Gotham City Sirens, which was to be written and directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad), has been scrapped and that a Joker/Harley Quinn film will replace it. (via The Tracking Board). Read the full story here.
This may all change next week, of course, but it seems the DCEU is taking shape post Justice League. Speaking of the superhero team-up film, word suggests that Jesse Eisenberg’s return of Lex Luthor has been cut from the film. According to Batman-On-Film, sources have said that Luthor will now not be part of the film which has just had reshoots overseen by Joss Whedon.
Justice League opens on November 15th and stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irson, J.K. Simmons, Connie Nielsen, Billy Crudup, Ciaran Hinds and Amy Adams.
