Wesley Snipes has been claiming for a while now that he’s been talking to Marvel Studios about reprising the role of Blade, and while most of us have dismissed that as the actor looking to simply get some press coverage, there may just be some truth to his claims.

Later this year, Marvel were expected to release a new Blade series starring him in a mentor like role with his daughter taking set to take the lead as the Marvel Universe’s vampire hunter. However, that was delayed, and Bleeding Cool claims to have the answer why.

The site reveals that, “the character and the comic are suddenly considered extremely important by the bean counters, and the multi-media folk. Because the plan is that this new Blade will be the one that features in the next Blade movie.” This is very much a rumour as of right now, but taking the character in this direction would be a very interesting move.

Having a female lead would also be no bad thing, while Snipes’ return would generate quite a bit of interest in the movie. Either way, this is most likely a Phase 4 project for Kevin Feige!

According to the official description of the comic book version of this new Blade, “Fallon Grey is a sixteen year old girl from rural Oregon. Nominated for Prom Queen, Captain of the debate team, most popular girl in her class. But there is another side to Fallon. A feeling like there’s something more inside of her. When terror strikes her small town, she’ll find out just how right she was. As fearsome supernatural forces hunt Fallon, she’ll come face to face with something even more shocking than the monsters on her tail. Eric Brooks…Blade…her father?! And in each other, they’ll discover the purpose they’ve each been struggling to find.”
