Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther emerged from Captain America: Civil War as by far the best character (no easy feat in a movie full of great ones), and his upcoming solo outing – which is set to be released on February 2nd, 2018 – is very highly anticipated as a result.

Expect to get even more excited though, as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Star Wars: The Force Awakens star and Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o is in talks to join the cast of Black Panther in a currently undisclosed role. However, the trade mentions that she’s expected to be T’Challa’s love interest, so that narrows the field down at least a little.

Creed helmer Ryan Coogler is directing Black Panther and is currently working on the script.

After nabbing that Academy Award for 12 Years a Slave, it will be refreshing to see N’yongo return to a live-action role, especially after playing motion capture creations in the likes of Star Wars and The Jungle Book. Marvel Studios is clearly putting together a very diverse cast for Black Panther seeing as it takes place in the fictional African nation of Wakanda, and this is a great first addition. Expect the cast to continue growing over the coming months.
