Johnny Utah

It was revealed last month that 300 and Olympus Has Fallen star Gerard Butler was in final negotiations to join the cast of the upcoming remake of 1991 cult classic, Point Break as Bodhi (a role originally filled by Patrick Swayze). Well, according to a new report, Alcon Entertainment has now found its Johnny Utah in the form of Luke Bracey.

Bracey will take on the role made famous by Keanu Reeves, and the Home and Away actor’s biggest role to date was as the body – not the voice – of Cobra Commander in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. He also stars in Nicholas Sparks upcoming adaptation The Best Of Me.

Invincible’s Ericson Core is directed the remake of Kathryn Bigelow’s action classic, while the screenplay was penned by Salt and Total Recall scribe Kurt Wimmer. Filming begins this summer for a planned 2015 release.

There’s no synopsis for the movie as of yet, although it was described earlier this year as focusing on Brodhi, an expert extreme-sports athlete who seeks nirvana through the conquest of a series of athletic feats such as surfing 100-foot waves. He saves Johnny Utah, the undercover FBI agent, and brings him into the fold of international criminals.
