Dogwoof, Sylver Entertainment and Velvet Moss have unveiled the trailer for ‘LOMU,’ a new documentary exploring the extraordinary life, legacy and untold story of rugby legend Jonah Lomu.
The highly anticipated documentary will receive a one-night-only theatrical release across the UK and Ireland on Monday, 7 September, following its London premiere at the London Breeze Film Festival on Thursday, 3 September.
Directed by Irish filmmaker Gavin Fitzgerald, known for ‘Conor McGregor: Notorious,’ and Tongan-New Zealander Vea Mafile-o, LOMU offers an intimate and deeply personal portrait of one of rugby’s most iconic figures.
Jonah Lomu was rugby’s first global superstar. With his extraordinary combination of size, power and speed, he transformed the sport and became one of the most influential players in its history. He made history as the All Blacks’ youngest ever player and quickly became a cultural icon both on and off the pitch.
While Lomu’s sporting achievements are legendary, ‘LOMU’ promises to go beyond the highlight reel.
The documentary explores his Tongan upbringing, his meteoric rise to international fame and the personal and health battles he faced at the very pinnacle of world rugby. Featuring unprecedented access to Lomu’s family and personal archives, the film aims to reveal the man behind the myth and challenge the sensationalist narratives that have surrounded his life.
Lomu became the youngest ever All Black at just 19 years old, was named Player of the Tournament at the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa and became the record holder for the most tries scored in Rugby World Cup history.
But behind the unstoppable force on the field was a man who faced extraordinary odds in his fight to wear the famous All Blacks jersey.
