Clive OwenGuillame Canet (Tell No One) returns behind the camera with Blood Ties, starring Clive Owen, Billy Crudup, Marion Cotillard, and Mila Kunis.

The 1970s-set film is in production at the moment, and has been picked up on the market at Cannes by Lionsgate, who will distribute the film here in the UK.

Also starring Zoe Saldana, James Caan, and Noah Emmerich, the film is an adaptation of the original French novel, Les liens du sang, written by Bruno and Michel Papet – which was itself adapted back in 2008 for the French film of the same name (known as Rivals in the UK), in which Canet, also an actor, starred in the co-leading role that Crudup will now play.

“An adaptation of a French novel titled Les liens du sang, the story centers on a younger brother (Crudup) who has to ask his convict older brother (Owen) to go back into the underworld to help out the family.”

Canet has co-written the screenplay with James Gray, whose upcoming as-yet-untitled film also sees him working with Cotillard, alongside Jeremy Renner and Joaquin Phoenix – i.e. that’s another film to look out for.

With Blood Ties still in production, there’s no word yet on when we can expect it to come to our shores, but hopefully it won’t be too far into 2013 before we do. More as we get it.
