Did any of us see this coming? Liam Neeson has finally thrown in the towel and officially retired from the action arena due to his age – but the Taken star has vowed to keep on acting but in more “serious roles”.
Neeson never set out to go down the road of fast-paced shoot ‘em up’s but after his success in 2008’s first Taken instalment the Northern Irish actor became almost typecast rolling out action after action making him a force to be reckoned with in the genre.
However, after hitting the grand old age of 65, Neeson has come to terms with his limits, whilst attending the Toronto Film Festival, which is underway right now, the actor stated that he is still being offered silly money to “do that stuff” he went on to add “I’m like: ‘Guys I’m sixty-f******-five.’ Audiences are eventually going to go: ‘Come on.'”
If the news of Neeson’s retirement from the genre upsets you, you have no need to fret; the actor has yet another two films to be released this year to keep that hunger at bay. He will be starring in The Commuter (see the first look trailer here) where he plays the insurance salesman, Michael. On his daily commute home events take a turn for the worse. After being contacted by a mysterious stranger, He is forced to uncover the identity of a hidden passenger on his train before the last stop. As he works against the clock to solve the puzzle, he realizes a deadly plan is unfolding and is unwittingly caught up in a criminal conspiracy. One that carries life and death stakes for himself and his fellow passengers.
He will also appear in Hard Powder; based on the 2014 Norwegian film ‘In Order of Disappearance’ he plays a snow plough driver seeks revenge against the drug dealers he thinks killed his son.
