It’s no secret that we here at HeyUGuys are massive fans of LEGO and let’s face it, who isn’t?! Almost exactly a year ago I got to sit down and build my first plastic creation for about ten years! Fortunately it didn’t take another ten years for me to sit down with some of the most famous bricks in the world to create my next masterpiece!

LEGO is going from strength to strength tieing itself in with multitudes of film companies to bring out some of the most creative and clever sets that we’ve ever seen. The set in question today is from LEGO’s Super Heroes range and is called Ultimate Spider-Man. It’s almost fate that this post goes live the same week as the first poster for the second movie in the Amazing Spider-Man franchise which sees fellow Brit Andrew Garfield back in the title role.

LEGO have dozens of new sets coming out in the summer months to tie in with releases including Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel (The new Superman movie) and it’s a very exciting time for the company which only a few days ago was named as one of the most powerful brands in the UK.

Lego-Spider-Man

The new set that I was sent is based for kids ages 6-12 years old, (I ignored the giant numbers on the front as I’m a little older than that) and was quiet a basic set to put together but the final product looks like it will have taken you hours to assemble (I think it took me about 90 minutes). Included in the pack are Spider-Man, Dr. Doom, J. Jonah Jameson, Beetle and Nova all of who come equipped with their own weapons (or in Dr. Doom’s case, a cape and his aircraft).

Assembly starts with the Daily Bugle, building the office from the ground up and includes a couple of desks, a computer, windows and even digital signage (of sorts!). The Daily Bugle also comes with a trap door which will stop even the most devious of villains from infiltrating without being noticed! I think my favourite part of the whole thing are the fire escape which are so cleverly put together! It never ceases to amaze me how every time LEGO create a new set, they look so carefully at all these small details which come together to looks so real. The imaginations at LEGO HQ must be on overdrive for this stuff!

This set is by no means as intricate as the Darth Maul Sith Infiltrator that I built a year ago and but was just as fun to put together. The books are (as always) extremely detailed yet simple to follow and only once did I completely miss a piece that I was supposed to add but let’s ignore that! What excites me most about these sets are the fact that kids get to build something they love in the run up to their favourite movies being released on the big screen. My son is only 18 months old but i know these sets will be played with again and again when he gets a little older and is able to enjoy them just as much as I do. It leads up to the excitement of a film release and means that once you’ve seen the movie, you can then recreate what you saw using your own set.

LEGO will never cease to amaze me and has once again done so with the imagination of this Spider-Man set. If you like what you see and want to get you hands on it, click right this way and Amazon can oblige! Roll on Man of Steel and Iron Man 3 because I simply cannot wait to see what LEGO come up with to tie in with those releases.
