Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt have joined the cast of the live-action sequel to Sony Pictures’ ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife.’

‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ writer and executive producer, Gil Kenan will take over directing duties from Jason Reitman. Reitman will move into the writer-producer role alongside co-scribe Kenan and Jason Blumenfeld. Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon are said to be on board to return.

Details on the plot for the sequel are yet to be revealed but rumours have it the film will be set back in New York and that the infamous firehouse HQ will feature once again.

Nanjiani has landed on his feet over recent years, gaining big roles in major franchises that include Marvel and Star Wars projects. He most recently starred in Hulu’s limited series ‘Welcome to Chippendales,’ Disney+ ‘Star Wars’ prequel ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ opposite Ewan McGregor and Marvel’s ‘Eternals.’ Up next, Nanjiani will also star in and produce FX’s ‘Homeland Elegies,’ based on the book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ayad Akhtar.
