John Wick was a surprise hit earlier this year, receiving rave reviews and earning $78 million at the worldwide box office on a budget of only $20 million. Throw in an extra $40 million or so from Digital, DVD and Blu-ray sales (which no doubt came as a result of that ever important word of mouth), and it’s not hard to understand why a sequel is now in the works.

We found out earlier this year that the follow-up had been given the green light by Thunder Road Pictures, and it has now been confirmed that Keanu Reeves will be reprising the role of John Wick, with directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski returning, along with screenwriter Derek Kolstad. Plot details are obviously being kept under wraps for the time being.

The first movie revolved around legendary assassin John Wick, now retired from his violent career after marrying the love of his life. However, her sudden death leaves John in deep mourning, and when sadistic mobster Iosef Tarasov and his thugs steal John’s prized car and kill the puppy that was a last gift from his wife, John unleashes the remorseless killing machine within and seeks vengeance all while fending off bounty hunters out to stop him.

It’s going to be a lot of fun seeing the John Wick sequel come together over the next few months, and with shooting beginning so soon, we could have a trailer in a few months time too. Now, here’s hoping that another puppy won’t have to die in the follow-up, eh?
