Karl Urban is out in San Diego this weekend to promote his upcoming lead in Dredd, and though Paramount aren’t at the convention with Star Trek 2, Urban has been speaking about the film in his Dredd talks, and promised a Star Trek exclusive will hit YouTube this weekend.

Talking to /Film, he was asked about whether or not his potential leak of Benedict Cumberbatch’s character in the film was real, and whether or not we’d be seeing any Star Trek 2 footage soon, and this was his reply:

“I’m not messing with you. I’m not one to do that,” he said. “There is gonna be some very special footage coming out this weekend for comic con. A Star Trek exclusive coming to YouTube. It’ll be ‘Star Trek Comic Con Sneak Peak.’”

And according to the report,

“Urban did not sound like he was joking.”

With such awesome things coming out of the convention, it would definitely be a brilliant time to release something as huge as that – all eyes are on San Diego, and even if the film isn’t there, it would attract even more attention this weekend than normal.

Alongside Urban will be a fantastic cast of new and old faces alike, including Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Alice Eve, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, and of course Benedict Cumberbatch.

J.J. Abrams returns behind the camera once more, directing from a script co-written by Damon Lindelof (Prometheus, Lost) and Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Star Trek).

Star Trek 2 – which remains as-yet-untitled – will be released in the UK and US on 17th May, 2013. Here’s to hoping that Urban was right, and we’ll have  footage to bring you this weekend.
