If talks are successful, Law would be playing the role of Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, who becomes a mentor of sorts to Danvers as she tries to figure out her new powers.

Captain Marvel - Captain Mar-Vell

Captain Mar-Vell was a member of the Kree, the alien humanoid warrior race which has forged an empire throughout the galaxy known as the Large Magellanic Cloud. More specifically, he was one of the so-called “Pink Kree.” This Kree race has the same colour skin as Caucasian Earth humans; their existence was the result of interbreeding of many of the original blue Kree race with humanoids of other worlds, and they now far outnumber the blue Kree, who, however, still dominate positions of wealth and governmental power in the Kree Empire.

The film is expected to release on March 8, 2019, and will follow Carol Danvers (Larson), an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight. The film will be set in the ’90s before the Avengers ever thought of assembling, and Samuel L. Jackson is expected to reprise his role as Nick Fury.

Ben Mendelsohn will also be joining the cast as the villain, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are directing the most recent draft of the film from Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Kevin Feige is producing.

As well as starring in the Harry Potter spin-off, Law is also said to be reprising his role in the third Sherlock Holmes movie. He has currently finished filming on a Woody Allen film and is due to start on the spy thriller, The Rhythm Section alongside Elle Fanning.
