Captain America: The Winter Soldier has been acknowledged as the movie which bridges the gap between the other Phase 2 solo outings and 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. When we last saw Steve Rogers, he was about to set out on a mission to help his former sidekick Bucky, so what brings him back to the Avengers?

“The fact is, Ultron is a clear and present danger and Bucky’s in the wind,” Joss Whedon revealed in a recent interview with Nerd HQ. “We do mention the fact that that’s his sort of primary thing, but he’s also working with The Avengers too. We’re not ignoring it, but he definitely has to deal with a mad 8 foot robot, because that’s one of those things that you put it off and it just gets worse.” Well, that certainly makes sense!

This type of storytelling method isn’t really in the least bit different to the comic books where superheroes like Captain America have their own adventures before teaming up with the Avengers to deal with a much larger and present danger. Once again, Marvel Studios stands out as understanding how these things work.

As for Captain America 3, Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo revealed in an interview with Yahoo! that the movie will take place roughly two years after the last instalment. That’s quite a gap, but the focus will once again be on Steve Rogers’ relationship with Bucky.

However, they also said that power and politics will still play a major role in proceedings that that they’re “bringing some new elements to the table that will give us a twist on Winter Soldier.”

What could they be? We’re just going to have to wait and see! What do you guys think?
