Having been fortunate enough to interview director Francis Lee and star Alec Secareanu during our stint in Romania earlier this year, it felt like we were missing the final piece of the jigsaw – so needless to say it was our pleasure to sit down with the film’s leading star Josh O’Connor, back in (a far rainier) London.

God's Own CountryWe wanted to speak about the joy in getting your teeth stuck into such a remarkable character – as O’Connor plays one half of the romantic narrative between a farmer and immigrant. We asked about the farming and how the actor felt about having to adhere to authenticity so much, and just what it was like sticking his hand up a cow’s backside.

We also discussed the importance of this film, and the joy in collaborating so closely with Lee – who had a very particular vision for this film, and a vision that has undoubtedly come to life, to make for such a special piece of contemporary cinema
