MGM+ has released the official trailer for ‘American Hostage,’ a gripping new eight-episode anthology series starring and executive produced by Emmy Award winner Jon Hamm.
Co-created by Shawn Ryan and Eileen Myers, ‘American Hostage’ is based on the acclaimed first season of the scripted podcast of the same name. The psychological thriller transports audiences back to the 1970s to tell the harrowing true story of Fred Heckman, a beloved Indianapolis radio reporter whose career takes a terrifying turn when he becomes caught in the middle of a life-or-death hostage crisis.
In the series, Hamm stars as Fred Heckman, a respected radio news reporter whose ordinary life is thrown into chaos when hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed live on Fred’s popular radio programme.
With Kiritsis holding a hostage and making increasingly dangerous demands, Fred finds himself forced into an extraordinary position. As the situation escalates, the radio reporter must navigate a deadly confrontation while attempting to keep the crisis from spiralling completely out of control.
The trailer teases a tense psychological battle between Fred and Kiritsis, with the radio station becoming the unlikely centre of a hostage situation that captures the attention of an entire city.
Joining Hamm in the cast is Emmy Award nominee Giovanni Ribisi as Tony Kiritsis. The ensemble also features Kristoffer Polaha as Dick Hall, Emmy Award nominee William Jackson Harper as Ben Hairston, Emmy Award nominee Mireille Enos as Barbara Heckman, Jonathan Tucker as FBI Special Agent Cormac McNally and Kat Cunning as Ibby Hall.
‘American Hostage’ is produced by Sony Pictures Television and will make its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival before arriving on MGM+.
