My hopes were not high when I finally sat down to watch GI Joe: Rise of Cobra last weekend. The reviews had been poor, the trailers looked ridiculous and my 10-year old said it was one of the best films he’d ever seen. It turns out I was right to have been apprehensive, as the film was very silly, terribly written and looked for the most part like an Xbox game. Having said that, I kind of had fun watching it and knowing that his Rock-ness is due to bring both The People’s Elbow AND The People’s Eyebrow to bear as Roadblock in the planned sequel, I’m even vaguely interested in seeing more.
And more we shall have. In addition to the casting news we’ve already brought you, we now hear that Joe Mazzello is coming on board as well. Who he? Well, he was the desperately annoying kid in Jurassic Park that you hoped would get eaten but didn’t and since then he’s cropped up in The River Wild, The Pacific and The Social Network. He’s in his late twenties now, so fits the bill age-wise and although he looks a little, well, weedy to be appearing alongside Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson and (presumably) Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, given that his character’s name is Mouse rather than Roadblock, Heavy Duty or Duke, maybe he’ll do fine.
