Mike Newell ‘s Great Expectations is looking like a fine film, and a fine adaptation of the classic novel with Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter and War Horse’s Jeremy Irvine heading the cast.

This new clip played at the programme launch of the London Film Festival yesterday and it is certainly one of the more prominent films playing at next month’s festival where it will be the closing film.

I hadn’t seen much of the previous promotional material for this adaptation and this clip sold me, not least because Irvine and Granger do a great job of tempering those pesky emotions but also because it shows off David Nicholls’ adaptation of the Dickens novel very well indeed.

The film is out on the 30th of November so if you’re around the capital towards the end of October you might want to get a ticket or two.

Here’s the clip,
