When Jena Malone was spotted on the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year, speculation began that she had some sort of role in the highly anticipated Man of Steel follow-up.

However, it seemed far more likely that she was simply visiting her Sucker Punch director, Zack Snyder!

When she appeared on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire red carpet with red hair though, that took fan theories to a different level, with many believing she could be Carrie Kelley, the female Robin who played a major role in The Dark Knight Returns, the Frank Miller comic book Batman v Superman is inspired by.

An extra recently told a Detroit TV station that Malone was playing a female Robin (despite signing a non-disclosure agreement which would see them sued for $5 million for breaking confidentiality), and while that made a nice story, it seemed very dubious and far from concrete proof that she’s in Batman v Superman.

Well, a new report reveals that Malone will indeed star in the movie, but whether it’s as Robin or someone else altogether is unclear. Robin or Batgirl are the two most popular suggestions right now among fans.

Nightwing was rumoured to appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but deciding to instead focus on this female Robin would be something very different and seeing another female superhero on the big screen would be welcomed by moviegoers. Below is the original news report which broke the news.
