Director James Mangold is returning to familiar territory folloing his first foray in the romantic action adventure genre, with this summer’s Knight and Day – a film which was meet with less than favourable results, both critically and box office-wise (even more so considering the star wattage of leads, Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz).

He’s strapping on that six-shooter and mounting up again for another western. Having received praise for his remake of 3:10 to Yuma, Mangold is now attached to direct The Gunslinger, a revenge thriller that Warners initially bought as a spec.

The script, by John Hlavin (erm…Underworld 4), is a modern-day western which revolves around an ex-Texas Ranger who sets out to avenge his brother’s murder by killing for men responsible.
