As production gets underway, James Gunn has announced a slight change in title for his upcoming ‘Superman’ offering, changing it from ‘Superman: Legacy’ to just plain and simply ‘Superman.’
Taking to his Instagram to make the occasion, Gunn stated;
“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday.
When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.”

The cast includes David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan who are already set to play Clark Kent and Lois Lane. The cast also consists of Nathan Fillion (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”) who will play Guy Gardner, one of the figures known as Green Lantern, he will be just one of several people in the new DC Universe to wear the emerald ring that imbues its wearer with the powers of the Green Lantern; Isabela Merced (“Dora and the Lost City of Gold”) will play Hawkgirl, one of DC’s oldest superheroes, who first appeared in 1940; and Edi Gathegi (“X-Men: First Class”) will play Mister Terrific aka Michael Holt, an ingenious inventor who operates as Mister Terrific with the multipurpose, mechanical “T-Spheres” he created. Nicholas Hoult is taking on the role of Superman’s infamous villain Lex Luthor.
The movie is set to open in July 11, 2025, from Warner Bros.
