The 2018 Glasgow Film Festival (GFF) is shaping up nicely with the Opening Gala film announced as Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs in what will be its UK premiere on February 21st.

Isle of Dogs features a phenomenal cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston and Jeff Goldblum in a canine-centric tale set in Japan.

Not only does this mark a return of sorts to the festival for Anderson but also a return to animation after Fantastic Mr. Fox.

GFF Festival Co-director, Allan Hunter, said: “Four years ago we opened the festival by booking into The Grand Budapest Hotel. This year we invite audiences to set sail for the Isle Of Dogs. Wes Anderson is one of the most imaginative, beguiling filmmakers working in world cinema and we are thrilled to open GFF 2018 with the UK premiere of his brand new film.”

Already announced is the return of the Rebel Heroes strand to the festival that will see classics return to cinema screens that will include Steve McQueen’s Bulitt and Rebel Without A Cause to name but a few.

With the full festival programme due to be released on January 24th , this announcement is very much a statement of intent for what to expect as GFF is quickly becoming one of the most eagerly events in the festival calendar.
