The trailer for Yash Raj’s next movie Ishaqzaade has just released which also happens to be the debut of Arjun Kapoor, son of producer Boney Kapoor and nephew of Anil Kapoor (who was last seen in Mission Impossible, playing the Indian Millionaire Playboy that gets choked out by Paula Patton) and the first lead role for Parineeti Chopra (cousin of Priyanka Chopra) who delivered a stand out performance of last year’s Ladies Vs Ricky Behl.

Although Bollywood can be accused of nepotism, especially in the case of Ishaqzaade, the trailer is quite exciting.

Set in a dusty, grimy land of Tashan/ Omkara, we seem to have a basic boy meets girl story with a Romeo Juliette-styled warring families background, the premise might sounds old wine in new bottles but if the wine is awesome, let’s all get drunk together!

Arjun Kapoor’s debut had been long in the making, the poster for Ishaqzaade was floating around the internet for at least a year but seeing him in action in this first trailer, he seems to have a bit of scruffy stubbled Abhishek Bachchan charm added with YRF’s other blue- eyed boy Ranveer Singh’s street savvy. Quite interesting how in a couple of years we have gone from quintessential clean cut Bollywood heroes coming back from studies “abroad” to their palatial mansions to smart-alec, quick witted and less groomed earthy heroes.

Parineeti Chopra seems to be playing the same spunky girl that she played LVSRB but she was such a natural and charming presence that she just left audiences gagging for more. It’s interesting how she is able to connect more with audience in the few shots in a trailer where her former Miss World cousin isn’t able to do so in a career spanning close to a decade.

Directed by Habib Faisal who previously directed the critically acclaimed Do Dooni Char and has been writing for Yash Raj movies for quite a few flicks including one of my favorite’s Band Baaja Baraat (none of the others were greatly successful to be honest) but let’s see what he can do for his first big mainstream release.

Ishaqzaade releases in theaters the 18th of May.
