Following on from the first images for the movie yesterday, here’s the brand new first look at present day sci-fi movie iBoy. The film is the first to come from the UK wing of streaming service Netflix and from what we’ve heard and now seen looks fabulous.

The idea comes from the mind of novelist Kevin Brooks and has been turned into a movie by Adam Randall. Yesterday while writing the images piece, I stumbled upon a concept video piece created a few years ago which showed X-Men star Will Poulter in the lead role as a teenager who after getting assaulted by some thugs, ends up with shards of smartphone inserted into his brain. After waking up from hospital, it’s clear that the incident has left him rather a different young man than he used to be.

Poulter doesn’t appear in the movie however and it’s his Son of Rambow co-star Bill Milner who takes the lead as Tom alongside Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams who plays his best friend Lucy. Using his new super-powers, Tom decides to take matters into his own hands and get revenge on those thugs who assaulted him in the first place.

Milner and Williams are joined by Miranda Richardson and Rory Kinnear in the film which is set for release on Netflix in all territories available on 27th January.

The first proper look gives us a fantastic look at the tone and themes of the movie. It’s much darker than we anticipated and the use of VFX, on-screen graphics and locations make the movie look like we’re in for something special. Just a note that the trailer does contain swearing.
