Today was the first chance we got to look at some of the new products unveiled by HP as an elaborate stage was set up to present from at the Shanghai Convention Centre. It felt a bit like HP were trying to brush off their corporate style by having beat-boxers (see image!), movie Directors (Jacob Rosenberg who recently worked on Act of Valour), fashion designers and ‘pimp-my-ride’ style dudes joining executives in suits on stage as they presented new products to a group of over 500 press from all over the planet.

Was rather great seeing Jacob here to talk about his experience of using HP products in the field and we also got to see the new trailer for his follow-up movie to Act of Valour called Waiting for Lightning which we can expect to see in August. I tried to find Jacob after the presentation has completed by unfortunately failed to find him. Boo! Loving your work Jacob! Keep it up!

Power over Ethernet (PoE)

The highlights included a computer powered simply by an Ethernet cable running on 90% of what may usually be required to run such a machine. The project has been made in partnership with 3M and will be music to the ears of people who try to do their bit to use the least energy possible (I like to think that includes me!).

The device is called the HP t410 All-in-One (AiO) Smart Zero Client which uses ‘Power over Ethernet’ (PoE) and to be honest blew my mind. In the demo, they simply plugged in an Ethernet cable to the all-in-one machine and saw it come to life. Hopefully this is a revolutionary product which will pave the way for fewer cables in the office and then ultimately the home.

Laptops

As well as the this new PoE device, we got to see a range of new laptops that HP are bringing out including the The HP SpectreXT, HP ENVY Sleekbooks and HP ENVY Ultrabook with the latter 2 both come in 14” and 15.6” screen versions which seems to get most of the attention after the presentations were finished with press eager to see what HP had produced.

Printers

Another device they showed us which was pretty neat was the The HP Officejet 150 Mobile All-in-One which is the world’s first mobile all-in-one printer It’s a really cool little device which you can keep in your car while on the move and is great for scanning documents and printing them while on the movie. It also features built-in wireless Bluetooth® for printing from select notebooks and smartphones and a long-lasting lithium-ion battery that provides enough power to print up to 500 pages on a full charge.

All in all a pretty nice presentation full of cheesy one liners but really like what HP are bringing to the table. We have a chance to play with the some of the products shortly so stay tuned for more updates in the next 24 hours.
