The original film dominated box office in September three years ago with a very strong $42.5m. opening weekend in the States, ultimately closing with over $350m. around the world. Talk inevitably swung around to doing a sequel, and with its arrival just over half a year away, Sony has launched the first trailer for Hotel Transylvania 2.

Adam Sandler is back voicing Dracula once more, sharing the recording booth with Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Kevin James, and Fran Descher. Keegan-Michael Key is stepping in for Cee Le Green as Murray the Mummy this time around, with Mel Brooks joining the cast as Vlad, Dracula’s father and Mavis’ grandfather.

Genndy Tartakovsky opted to come back to direct the sequel, in spite of his busy schedule working on Popeye for Sony’s animation arm. Robert Smigel also returned to write the script, doing so solo this time.

I missed out on the original when it first hit cinemas back in 2012, so will be playing catch-up at some point between now and the autumn. Critics might not have warmed to it, but families clearly did, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a repeat performance later this year.

Hotel Transylvania 2 will be released on 25th September in the States and 9th October here in the UK.
