To celebrate the release of Hostage, the newest thriller mini-series coming to Netflix, we sat down with the cast and creator to find out more.

When the British Prime Minister’s husband is kidnapped and the visiting French President is blackmailed, the two political leaders both face unimaginable choices. Forced into a fierce rivalry where their political futures and lives might hang in the balance, can they work together to uncover the plot that threatens them both?

First, we chat with incredible actors Suranne Jones and Julie Delpy to discuss their roles in the intense thriller, which features gripping twists and turns, and its two powerful female leads. They discuss what makes their characters unique compared to past roles, the challenges of playing powerful leaders under extreme pressure, how they balanced the show’s tense atmosphere with fun and friendship off set, embracing the thriller’s split narrative and having Jaffa Cakes as the on-set snack of choice. As you do.

Next, show creator Matt Charman (writer of Bridge of Spies) talks about the genesis of the series and wanting to work with Jones for many years, crafting the show as a binge-worthy 5-part limited series, the challenges of writing political thrillers that feel timely and real, building a show around powerhouse leads Suranne Jones and Julie Delpy, the influence of iconic thrillers like 24 and why the series had to stay sharp and propulsive and much more.
