The simply brilliant How to Train Your Dragon 2 hits UK cinemas tomorrow and earlier in the year, we got to the speak to the wonderful person who created the original book series, that person is Cressida Cowell. Cowell wrote the twelve How to Train Your Dragon books after getting inspiration from family holidays when she was a child in Scotland. A boat would drop her and her family off on a remote island and two weeks later that boat would (hopefully!) return to pick them up.

On these holidays (which became more frequent over time) Cowell would explore the remote island creating her own adventures and experiences and it would be these moments which would give a brand new and exciting world of Vikings and Dragons! Dreamworks the ability to turn her books into a movie. 2010 brought the first movie and now 4 years later and after numerous awards and a massive fan-base, Hiccup, Toothless and their merry band of Vikings and dragons have hit the UK shores in How to Train Your Dragon 2 (our review of the movie is here).

We got to speak to Cressida about the movies, her involvement in creating them, the surprise over how popular the first movie was, handing over her ‘baby’ to Dreamworks and what it is that makes this franchise so special.

If you’ve never seen the first How to Train Your Dragon movie, now is the time to watch it so that you can go to the cinema and be amazed by the second film. There’s already confirmation of a third and we cannot wait!

How to Train Your Dragon 2 is in cinemas 11th July. You can see our interview with America Ferrera (Astrid) and Director Dean DeBlois right here.
