As if the cinematic future of Red, Blue and the rest of the BPRD wasn’t looking desperate enough already, Mike Mignola has re-voiced his skepticism regarding the franchise’s future.

Asked at a recent convention in Calgary whether he expected a third Hellboy movie to ever enter production, Mignola expressed his doubt that it would ever happen. A real shame considering the heights reached by the second film in the saga, The Golden Army.

“I love Guillermo; he’s cute! But in every interview there’s a new story on what his next movie is, and he honestly believes he’s going to do them all. Last I heard, he said ‘I’m never gonna get back to Hellboy’. I’m not surprised, because he won’t live long enough to do a tenth of the movies he’s told me he’s going to make.”

But…but maybe he wasn’t taking into account future medical advancements…or a change of heart…or…Oh, what’s the use?

With Ron Perlman in no hurry to return to the make-up chair and Mignola eager to finish his own Hellboy story before Hollywood does it for him, this may well be the final nail in the coffin for Hellboy 3.

Sayonara, Anung Un Rama – it sure was fun while it lasted.

Dailyblam had it first.
