Kerry McNally interviews Dame Helen Mirren for her movie Winchester: The House that Ghosts Built in which she stars opposite Jason Clarke.

She recalls having a supernatural experience of her own, “I remember one night, when I was working in Stratford Upon Avon, I was driving home and suddenly, for absolutely no reason I got really frightened. It was like I’d entered a zone of evil – and I’m a very rational person, but it was so vivid!”

She also talked about with Jason Clarke as a “…wonderful actor to work with. He was fantastically contributive. I have a very soft spot in my heart for anyone with an Australian accent!”

And on her character, the enigmatic Sarah Winchester: “As well as building a very eccentric house, Sarah Winchester built in elements that had never been seen before at the time. She also had a room for plants – she loved horticulture, we have that in common!”

Winchester is out today in UK cinemas, read our review here.
