It would appear that the auteur from down under, Baz Luhrmann, is ready to put the memory of his much-maligned romantic epic Australia behind him and get back into the director’s chair once again.

Bleeding Cool have reported on the news that Luhrmann has met with previous leading man Leonardo DiCaprio, the luminous Rebecca Hall and Leo’s mate Tobey Maguire with an idea of casting the trio in a new version of famed novel The Great Gatsby.

The screenplay has been adapted by the director and Craig Pearce, who was also co-writer on all three films in Luhrmann’s Red Curtain Trilogy – Strictly Ballroom, Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge.

We’ll keep you updated when we hear of any official announcements casting-wise, it this certainly seems like an interesting and intriguing venture for the Aussie director to make his comeback with.
