HBO Max has officially lifted the curtain on its long-awaited return to the Wizarding World, debuting the first teaser for ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ during the HBO Max UK & Ireland launch event. The eight-episode first season promises to reintroduce audiences to the magic, mystery, and mounting darkness of Harry Potter’s first year at Hogwarts—this time with a fresh cast and a more expansive, serialised storytelling approach.

The teaser plays like a whispered spell, beginning in the quiet, cupboard-shadowed life Harry endures under the watchful eye of his Aunt Petunia, before that fateful letter arrives and cracks his world wide open. From there, glimpses of enchanted corridors, candlelit feasts, and looming danger flicker across the screen, hinting at a faithful yet richly layered adaptation of the beloved novel.

Leading the series is Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Together, the trio anchors a sprawling ensemble that blends rising talent with seasoned performers.

Among the standout cast:

  • John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore
  • Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall
  • Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape
  • Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid

The student body is equally packed, with Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, and a full Weasley lineup including Tristan and Gabriel Harland as Fred and George, and Ruari Spooner as Percy.

Additional casting deepens the world even further, including Daniel Rigby and Bel Powley as the Dursleys, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander. Familiar Hogwarts faces such as Filius Flitwick, Pomona Sprout, and Madam Hooch also appear, rounding out the cast.

The series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod directing multiple episodes and serving as executive producer. Produced in association with Warner Bros. Television and Brontë Film and TV.
