Harrison-FordWith a Summer 2014 release date already in place, production on The Expendables 3 is expected to get underway soon. And as the shooting date gets closer and closer, an official cast list naturally remains imminent.

Sylvester Stallone took to Twitter once more last night to give an update on the project, announcing that one of his dream casts has been filled, with Harrison Ford coming on board. And in the same tweet, he announced that Bruce Willis won’t be returning, following his appearance in the original, and then his bigger role in last year’s sequel.

WILLIS OUT… HARRISON FORD IN !!!! GREAT NEWS !!!!! Been waiting years for this!!!!

Stallone then sent out what appears to be a somewhat bitter tweet, which seems to be presumably aimed at Willis:

GREEDY AND LAZY …… A SURE FORMULA FOR CAREER FAILURE

If so, it seems perhaps more reactive than valid – Willis’ career is probably one of the safest in Hollywood, even with RED 2 performing less than hoped for in recent weeks, and will no doubt continue for as long as Willis wants it to.

Either way, it’s interesting to see Harrison Ford coming on board the project. Stallone has undeniably assembled two very impressive casts in the past for the first and second film, and the roster for The Expendables 3 is getting better and better.

Along with plenty of familiar faces expected to return, the new cast is set to star Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Milla Jovovich, Kellan Lutz, and Nicolas Cage, with rumours pointing to Mel Gibson taking the antagonist role.

Australian director Patrick Hughes (Red Hill) is set to take the helm, directing from a script Stallone has been co-writing with Richard Wenk (The Expendables 2, The Machinist).

The Expendables 3 is set to be released on August 15th, 2014, so expect production to get underway fairly soon, along with an official cast announcement.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
