It may have all gone quiet regarding news on the modern day remake of the Blob, but reports are surfacing that the project is still bubbling away behind closed doors and even has X-Men and Kingsman: The Golden Circle actress, Halle Berry attached to star.

The Expendables 2 and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider director Simon West is still stated to be at the helm of the reimagining of The Blob, which will be the third outing of this story. Another small development has arisen too which could have thrown a spanner in the works for Samuel L. Jackson. Jackson has been attached to star for a while now; he last gave an update on the status of the progress two months ago, revealing the film was being financed by China. However, according to the Swengroup (Dear, Demonic) website, Jackson’s name is nowhere to be found.

Halle Berry The Blob

Back in 2015, West revelled in the idea of bringing the Blob back to life with the enhancements in technology, “With modern CGI we can now fully realise the potential of The Blob,” “The world I create will be totally believable, immersive and emotionally satisfying. It’s a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era of fans.”

The 1958 original film synopsis reads;

A drive-in favourite, this sci-fi classic follows teenagers Steve and his best girl, Jane, as they try to protect their hometown from a gelatinous alien life form that engulfs everything it touches. The first to discover the substance and live to tell about it, Steve and Jane witness the blob destroying an elderly man and grow to a terrifying size. But no one else has seen the goo, and policeman Dave refuses to believe the kids without proof.

Fourteen years after the original, in 1972 Larry Hagman take up the director’s chair on the Sequel Beware! The Blob and in 1988 Kevin Dillion starred in the remake from Chuck Russell.
