Paramount Players are to bring back some summer loving with a new prequel for the much loved John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John musical ‘Grease’.

The working title for the project is, indeed, ‘Summer Loving’ and ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ scribe John August has been hired to pen the script.

The premise of the prequel will be set during the summer in which Danny (Travolta) and Sandy (John) met and embarked on their summer romance before heading to Rydell High for their senior year. The summer made infamous by the song ‘Summer Loving’ as each party bragged of their passion-fuelled encounter.

Released in 1978, ‘Grease’ follows the lives of greaser Danny Zuko and Australian transfer student Sandy Olsson as they once again meet at school. Danny the head of the cool T-Birds is the exact opposite to Sandy’s prim and proper image but the pair try to make it work but they are both just too different until Sandy is taken under the wing of the Pink Ladies for one hell of a transformation.

The movie spawned one of the most recognisable soundtracks to this day, It has sold well over $38 million copies worldwide making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. It gave birth to songs such as ‘You’re The One That I Want’, ‘Summer Nights’ and ‘Hopelessly Devoted’ as well as the title track which was written by The Bee Gees Barry Gibb.

In 1982, ‘Grease 2’ was released starring Maxwell Caulfield and Michelle Pfeiffer as a newer class of greasers. Few of the original cast members reprised their roles.
