The eagerly awaited Glasgow Film Festival 2026 unveils its exciting programme with 126 films, a celebration of 100 years of Marilyn Monroe and more.

Kicking things off is Felipe Bustos Sierra’s powerful documentary, Everybody To Kenmure Street, on February 25th. Hollywood star and Glasgow’s very own, James McAvoy, will close the festival with California Schemin’, in what is his directorial debut.

Running until March 8th some highlights of GFF include UK premieres of The Good Boy, No Ordinary Heist, The Last Viking and The Wizard of the Kremlin.

Be ready for a double does of Willem Dafoe at GFF as he stars in with Late Fame and The Birthday Party. After opening GFF in 2020 with Proxima, director Alice Winocour returns  with the UK premiere of Couture starring Angelina Jolie.

A diverse programme includes the world premiere of Jack Archer’s Gaelic psalm singing documentary, Sailm nan Daoine (Psalms of the People). Jim Jarmusch brings his Venice Golden Lion-winning Father Mother Sister Brother to the festival.

The insanely popular special screenings return with Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge! and horror classic, Carrie. These immersive events are always a highlight of GFF with a surprise visit from Toni Collette last year for the screening of Muriel’s Wedding.

Support continues for first or second-time directors in the GFF Audience Award where audiences will vote from a shortlist of the following 10 films: A Place for Her, On a String, Pasa Faho, Rebuilding, Bouchra, Atropia, Live a Little, First Light, The Last One for the Road and Nino.

No GFF is quite complete without the odd jump scare and blood-curdling scream to get the heart racing. And so FrightFest returns to the festival with an eclectic programme featuring five world premieres running from March 5th-7th.

Over the three days expect scares but also stars as Chris Colfer and Alice Krige are set to attend the festival for the UK premiere of The Restoration At Grayson Manor.

Thriller Jailbroken is set for its world premiere with star Bryan Larkin in attendance. The FrightFest programme also includes Bone Keeper, The Curse and Violence.  For documentary-lovers David Kittredge’s Boorman & The Devil explores the ill-fated Exorcist II: The Heretic.

In true GFF tradition is the return of Country Focus with “Take a Chance on Me: Swedish Cinema“. This strand of the festival will host the UK premiere of political satire Eagles of the Republic, horror The Home as well as Live a Little.

Marilyn Monroe 100 celebrates the life and work of an icon with special screenings of The Asphalt Jungle, Don’t Bother to Knock, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Some Like it Hot and a screening of The Prince and the Showgirl on 35mm.

In amongst the multitude of new movies is “Truth to Power” – the free retrospective of 10 classics including Dr Strangelove. It sees a 50th anniversary screening of All the President’s Men with other highlights including Ava DuVernay’s powerful Selma and Steven Soderbergh’s Erin Brockovich.
