This Friday, the 5th of June, the Secret Cinema/Sofa screening is Ghostbusters – one of the greatest horror comedies of all time. It’s a film loved by millions, and quoted by even more – but how much do you really know about the film…?

Welcome friends to the ULTIMATE Ghostbusters Fan Quiz! Do you know your Gozer from your Gozerains? Can you name both the Keymaster AND the gatekeeper? Well, this is the place to prove it. Our resident Ghostbusters-expert Scott Davis has gone to great lengths, and scoured the deepest corners of GB fandom to gather the following twenty questions to see if you too could be a Ghostbuster.

We’re focusing mainly on the first film, with a couple of questions about Ghostbusters 2. Nothing’s at stake except bragging rights and geek pride. But we warn you – some of these are very tough indeed.

The original title was jettisoned relatively early on in production. However, due to a little-remembered TV series called The Ghost Busters, Universal still owned to rights to Akryoyd’s preferred name. Even during filming the famous “We’re ready to believe YOU!” TV advert used some other names, including Ghostblasters and Ghoststoppers.

FRIGHT NIGHT

Not content with having the coolest horror movie poster of the decade this 1985 classic also took on the puppet (seen below from Fright Night fan wiki) that was discarded from Ghostbusters. And that’s a creepy looking puppet, don’t get us wrong – but there’s something TRULY unsettling about this behind the scenes shot of actress Ruth Oliver (who played the librarian) having some final adjustments made.

In the excellent oral history of Ghostbusters in Esquire Aykroyd said the spirit of his late friend lived on in the character Slimer…

“We were thinking along the lines of giving a Belushi element to the character. It wasn’t really said in the script that he should look like Belushi, but when subliminally he turned out like that, I think we were all happy.”
