Multi-award winning Filmmaker, Francis Lawrence isn’t one to be known for keeping to one genre in his project choices. He has directed a number of music videos to TV commercials, but most famously took the helm of the book adaptations of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay parts 1 and 2 with his Red Sparrow leading lady Jennifer Lawrence (no relation). Three years after working with Jennifer, Francis teams up yet again with the actress on the dark and brutal Red Sparrow which is released in cinemas Thursday the 1st of March.

We caught up with Francis to spend some time talking about Red Sparrow. He tells us how adapting the film had its challenges due to its complex storyline and how to make it human. He also goes on to explain how even though the film is quite brutal, he didn’t want the picture to be too gratuitous or even interested in making an erotic thriller. He also goes on to explain how he already had Jennifer in mind to play Dominika after reading the book.

You can read our review of the film here.
