The National Lampoon’s movies contain some great subtle, intelligent humour. This simple scene, however, does not embrace those elements.

Instead, it truly sums up the puerile, infantile sensibilities that are also at play. ‘What am I?’ asks John Belushi’s Bluto, as he pops an impossibly round serving of mashed potato into his mouth.
