With one of the longest film titles that I can remember in recent years, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World looks more than a little promising. With a cast led by Steve Carell and Keira Knightley, the film marks the directorial debut of Lorene Scafaria, writer of Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.

Yahoo Movies have the first poster for the film to share with us, and it really is rather beautiful.

“Set in a too-near future, a man searches for a meaningful connection as humanity’s last days are at hand. Can he find his greatest love at the worst possible time? As the respective journeys of Dodge and Penny converge, the two spark to each other and their outlooks – if not the world’s – brighten.”

Looking at Carell in his sweater and hoodie really reminds me of his brilliant performance in Crazy, Stupid, Love. last year, a film that clearly showed that Carell can pull off the drama and romance every bit as well as he can the comedy.

Scafaria is directing from her own script, and has assembled a great cast that also includes Adam Brody (The O.C.), Melanie Lynskey (Two and a Half Men), Patton Oswalt (Young Adult), William Peterson (CSI), and Gillian Jacobs (Community).

Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is set to be released in the States on 22nd June, and with a bit of luck we can look forward to seeing it here in the UK this summer too. As usual with this lovely first poster, you can click to enlarge.
