American Sniper was a bigger hit than anyone ever expected, and now director Clint Eastwood has set his sights on the real life story of a very different kind of American hero.

Sully: Miracle On The Hudson stars Oscar winner Tom Hanks as Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and takes place on January 15, 2009, the day the world witnessed the “Miracle on the Hudson” when Captain Sullenberger glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.

The movie also stars Aaron Eckhart as Sully’s co-pilot, Jeff Skiles, and Laura Linney as Sully’s wife, Lorraine Sullenberger. The screenplay was written by Todd Komarnicki, and is based on the book Sully: My Search For What Really Matters by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow.

Now, ahead of Sully’s release this 2nd December, the first trailer and poster have been released.

It looks pretty great (no surprise given the talent involved), and you have to believe that there’s a very good chance we’re looking at a serious contender for next year’s Oscar race.
