James Cameron may have plans for as many as four more Avatar movies, but based on how long it’s taking for him to release the sequel to the one which came out in 2009, the wait for those is going to be pretty long. As of right now, Avatar 2 is pencilled in for a vague “Late 2017” release, but producer Jon Landau has now revealed the first piece of concept art.

He sent the image out via his Twitter account, but whether this is a sign that production is finally gearing up is hard to say. With a worldwide haul of nearly $2.8 billion, Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all-time, but is there really any interest in the franchise after all these years? A big part of why Avatar succeeded was the 3D effects, a format audiences have since soured on thanks to the movies which tried and failed to imitate this one.

Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are expected to return, and there’s been talk of the sequels shooting back to back and being released yearly. The pressure is really on Cameron to deliver at this point, especially with Avatar Land heading to Disney World in the near future; these sequels have to succeed, but first, someone needs to make the damn things!
