With our first real look at Rooney Mara as David Fincher’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo we are reminded of what an iconic character Stieg Larsson created in Lisbeth Salander of the Millennium Trilogy.

W Magazine shot the pictures of Rooney Mara and this is the first look we’ve had of the actress making the transformation into Salander, a role which made the name of actress Noomi Rapace.

The actress is now leading her own way into Hollywood with a role in the second Sherlock Holmes film, and is now automatically given her own seat in the rumour mill for every big studio film which needs a strong female character – the Ridley Scott Alien prequel is just one example.

Mara won the role of Salander over some of most established names in Hollywood and with David Fincher behind the camera for the first installment of the trilogy her profile will go through the roof.

The magazine have a few quotes alongside the pictures of Mara, which give us a few details on the film,

Fincher’s film departs dramatically from the book: Mikael Blomkvist is more gentlemanly, Salander…is more aggressive—and the ending has been completely altered.

Salander is an update of the iconic Scandinavian character Pippi Longstocking. “Lisbeth is the goth Pippi,” confirms the director. Here, a glimpse of the book’s namesake tattoo.

Here are the pictures, let’s hope a trailer isn’t too far behind. Click on the images to big them up.
